TEAM 5943 is an FRC (First Robotics Competition) team founded in late 2015. We base our team on the values of Gracious Professionalism, our knowledge that comes from STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths), and The 6Cs (Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Compassion, Creativity, Citizenship). We compete in two regional events New York Tech Valley and Hudson Valley. We are the first FRC Team in Putnam County, New York, and are honored to be so. We started as an FLL and FTC teams in 2009 with a grant from Dr. Pauline Mosley of Pace University. As our team continues to learn and grow, we hope to be able to have a positive impact in the community and with the students who plan to follow a career in STEAM programs.
Our motto “If It Aint Broke Don’t Fix It” encourages hard work, determination, creativity, collaboration, and honesty. Members ask for help when faced with difficult challenges. We manage these challenges as a group or with one to one mentoring. Our team encourages diversity on all levels: economic, gender and ethnic. By making our team inclusive of a wide variety of talents and interests we show that FIRST is more than just building robots and sends the message to each member to be inclusive and open-minded.
